Advice On Bible Reading

... It is not a bowl of Halloween candy with a sign attached, "Please take one". ... It is not a test that you at some point put down, saying, "At last I'm finally done!" ... It is not an assignment for the gifted that requires you to pass with perfect scores. ... It is not the bread one eats to feel satisfied, but apart of your very core. ... It is not an accessory to ones beliefs, but a carpenter's tool, refined and always there. ... It is not a Get Out of Jail Free Card to be pulled out whenever out of thin air. It's a complete lifestyle overhaul should you choose to take that leap of faith. You can't just dip your toes. You take a step, you go a mile, is that not the way it goes? So please, take note of these Bible misconceptions. A believer or not I just had to mention!

So true, and so well said Timothy! You're good at calling it out. You possess good wisdom and a sound mind. "It is not a Get Out of Jail Free Card to be pulled out whenever out of thin air. " Nicely said, and good point! Always, Laura

Thanks Laura! Hypocrisy just gets to me at times, I suppose ... thanks for understanding!

Wow this fits EXACTLY what I always say. It's not just 10 minutes or 30 of studying that makes you a "good christian" but trying to LIVE what you read in the Bible and do your best. Your poem expressed this perfectly!!! Great job!

We all have manuals for our cars and if we read them we will get full benifits from them. Consider the Bible the owners manual for your life. Another good poem Tim!

Thanks Rick! My poetry isn't always so directly religious, but it rubs me the wrong way when I see people calling themselves "Christians" just because they own a bible (the fact there's a pile of dust on the cover doesn't seem to ever come up as an issue).

My RE teacher once said,"If you have a problem, you can always open the bible anywhere and find a passage to help you". It does not always work but I have found it sets you on the right path. And I'm not over religious. Take care, Richard

Your teacher sounds like a smart person. Whether or not you are religious there is a lot of wise sayings that are derived from the bible that some don't even know about.

Agree with you 100%.. a very unique and brave topic to address, but it needs to be said. I find that no matter how many times I read the same verses, there is always a new treasure to be found. I think that if there were no other books in the world, we would be well satisfied with just reading the Bible and never growing tired of the wisdom within. Thanks for always stopping by.

I admire your perilous and undying faith, Kim! There are few that are as passionate as you, when it comes to beliefs and religion. It's the nominal (and at times hypocritical) Christians that this poem was aimed at... thanks for reading!
