Aboard the Titanic

Today I am about to embark on a journey that I have waited for, for so long, they say that this one is the safest ship were nothing could ever go wrong. As I stare down at the crowd, I think, here I am, traveling on the R.M.S. Titanic, this is the most exciting day of my life and yet I feel a sense of anxiety and panic. I calm myself by breathing in April's fresh air and the sea's waves begin to roll and rock, I close my eyes and feel the warm sunshine as the ship finally departs from the dock. Even though I'm not a first class passenger I admire the grandeur of the White Star Line, my few luxuries and the kindness shown to me are enough to warm this heart of mine. For Carolyn Devonshire's Past Lives Contest I'm very interested in learning about the Titanic, but sometimes when I look at a picture of the ship, I get this tremendous feeling of dread and fear. So much so, that I cannot look at the photo any longer. I don't know where my fear of this ship comes from. I have never been on a cruise or had any kind of traumatic experience on a ship. Sometimes, I think that I may have been on the Titanic in my past life. I don't know if I would have survived or not.

The note after the poem adds an errie quality to the piece. I wrote a poem about the Titanic that you might appreciate. I think I titled it "Remember me" or "Do you remember me".

I will be stopping by to read your poem shortly, Richard. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on mine.... I also wrote a sequel to this poem titled "Aboard The Titanic - Part 2".
Date: 11/17/2014 11:49:00 PM
Yes it needed a sequel. Extremely good. I can visualize. Part 2 is fabulous. I can clearly see Jack's death and hear voices of Rose choked by cold, death and despair "in Film Titanic, cruel 14 th April. The Key word for Titanic is "existence".It's a folly to think we are all powerful. Kelly Love for this one . Take care XXXXX RAJAT

I originally was not planning to write a sequel to this poem, but Paul Callus suggested that I do it, and he was right!... Thank you for your wonderful comments, once again. I appreciate it very much, Rajat!

I seem to understand what you mean, Kelly! I have never liked the look of the ship...maybe because subconsciously I compare it to the beautiful modern cruise liners. Enjoyed this write about your past life...wondering if you have a sequel to this...would make for interesting reading! // paul

Thank you for the kind and encouraging comments, Paul.... I agree, the look of the ship and the darker color it was painted, does add to the foreboding feeling.... I was not planning on writing a sequel to this, but it might be interesting to do so. My poem titled, "My Heart Is The Sea", could almost be a sequel!

Congratulations on the win... I don't know if I lived before, but when ever some one (animal or person) is saved I cry... and feel such emotion as... if only I could have been saved, too... I believe in God... but the feeling that I may have been abandoned to die alone, without help persists... Perhaps I'm feeling others pain. So many die like that in this world.

I think that a lot of my feelings do come from the fear and the pain that these people went through on the Titanic. I can't say for sure that I was there in my past life, but I have always had an odd, yet emotional feeling about the ship.... Thank you so much for the great comments and the kind congrats, Carol!

Was this contest judged yet? FOr me, this is a very good one for the contest and I think it should win (or should have won?) I really like how you explain your foreboding. I would bet that if you had a past life, that you died on this ship. For the fact that you put yourself not in the first class!! Then again, you could have survived even as second class.

If I had been on the Titanic, I don't think I would have survived, either, being that I was in one of the lower classes. Maybe that is where my fear of the ship comes from.... Yes, the contest has been judged and I placed 3rd. I wish it were higher, but there were some amazing poems entered, so I'm happy to have placed well! Thank you so much for the kind comments, Andrea. It meant a lot to me! :)

Thank you, Vera. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one!.... So many people seem to be interested in the Titanic, and it's a mystery as to why. Maybe we have a past connection to it that we don't know about.... The book that you mentioned sounds like a great read. I will try to find it.

You're welcome, Arthur, and thank you so much for the great comments.... The only way to conquer your fears is to face them, so I will go and look up this ship that you mentioned!

Kelly; This is very interesting. The Titanic was an awesome movie. I have seen it many times. I too have never been on a cruse either. I too am afraid. I don't know how to swim. Did you know that the man that built the Titanic was asked if it was safe He said - that it was so safe that not even God himself could sink it. The rest - we all know. Thanks for sharing... Lucilla

Thank you so much for the great comments, Lucilla!.... Yes, I did know that, that was said about the Titanic. I think everything happens for a reason, and there are things in this world that are greater than us. And sometimes, human beings are arrogant in thinking that we can control them. Maybe, the Titanic was one of those things that was just meant to be.
