A Word On Passion

Once in your life, you may come across A passion which burns so brightly as to seem Born of the forges of Vulcan And suckled from the breast of Venus. Yet time's merciless passage Will swiftly grind it to nothing; Earthly fire, even that of the soul, Springs not eternal. Soon all that will remain Shall be ash and softly glowing embers, Scattered to the four winds. Despair not, however, For if you search with diligence And have fortune on your side, You may find that one who inspires in you A love deeper than the furthest reaches Of Neptune's realm; And rooted more firmly than the mighty oak; A love that will withstand the ages With the knowledge that passion Was only the beginning.
