A Wish and a Feeling
Within me there’s a longing still
My heart’s not yet outgrown—
A silent ache that wakens now
To see the falling snow
There’s something in stillness—
The way the trees all stand like ghosts,
And I can feel cold country winds
Enveloping my bones
Old roads and forests call my name
Just as my soul begins to strain,
Half begging not to hear a sound,
Half wishing it was there again
I fear this ache will not subside
Until I rest within her eyes,
If fate will grant me what I’ve lost—
Our lonely paths again to cross.
