A Tree is Like a Blank Book A tree is like a blank book that nature writes her seasons on In Winter black branches woebegone With snow and ice and brazen rook A tree is like a blank book Which spring soon paints in pink chiffon As if at a signal — to act upon Not one blossom will overlook A tree is like a blank book And summer the season of sweet bygone And tongue in cheek, writes, green as a lawn Cool tangle of leaves and meadowbrook. A tree is like a blank book Where autumn leaves warm tones adorn In her golden shroud the year withdrawn Until nature gives back all she took.

i remembered being in the petrified forest looking at rings now solid in sandstone...the tales of inland seas, forests where monsters freely roamed, where Pterosaurs, Pterodactyl, and Quetzalcoatlus, filled the air....now silent stone i found myself listening....loved the inner breath this brings where poets meander in observation, inspiration, and imagination breathes heavenly in these lines....loved it

Thanks for these shared thoughts. Those moments are more than magical. My eyes have been giving me hell. I bought blue light glasses and they seem to help. SuZ

Hi James: I also have heard about the way trees interact through their roots. So many mysteries of Nature that we are unaware of , or could learn from. Thanks for your valued feedback. Will visit your page tomorrow. Giving a BBQ soon and got to shower and whip cream for the dessert. SuZ

Great comparisons. Love your simile on trees and books but I couldn't help thinking that coniferous softwoods are used to make 85% of the paper made. And of course, some of that paper goes into making books. Congratulations on your win. Super monorhyme scheme, kudoes.

Dear Suzanne, seasons and emotions are gracefully expressed with beautiful imagery, simile and wonderful rhymes. I love the idea of the tree being the blank book and Nature being the author filling its pages with details and musings; "tongue in cheek writes green as a lawn". So alluring, so creative, so brilliant! Congratulations for POTD honors. Your poem is a rich and worthy choice. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

love it...this is poetry...as i meander line by line neuropathways light up....the neotropical forests i walked in Mexico light up and as i travel farther the smell of the redwoods in the sea air...meld into the Olympic Rain Forests....line by line the depth of a tree is exposed for its meaning and beauty, congratulations and well deserved....
