A Tragedy

Sitting at the dining table, the old man began to sob.
He said Lord I was just a wondering how many souls today the devil got to rob.
The news said over fifty thousand were killed this very day,
Oh, Father God he said, in such a tragic way!

Men, women, and children, for many this day would be their last,
As the walls came tumbling down so very, very fast.
People standing and watching helpless, stunned by what they see,
Panic stricken, their only thoughts find safety, but where could they flee?

Shock and disbelief as screams and dust fill the air,
And realization faces those alive that death is everywhere.
This world is feeling birthing pains, the time is getting near,
What just happened in Haiti, could just as easily happen here!

We can never stop the Hand of God, but we can be ready for that day,
The old man raised his head and looked at me and said son join me as I pray.
His collar now was wet from tears as he led us both in prayer,
Those that are lost I pray somehow they find their way to someone who can share!

Unimaginable pain is what Haitians are feeling as they've never experienced an earthquake! This is the second natural disaster in Haiti and I am sure God will make something good out of this tragedy. We all pray for Haiti and her people. Good write, Ronald! Peace, Audrey

Let us keep focus and attention to the suffering. As comfort surrounds us, as the lucky ones....we cry and lament for awhile...but often, in time we forget that these victims are still needing our help....thank you for bringing this forward....let us not forget to do everything we can...once the media moves on to something else. Well done, Ron. ~ Carrie

The tears that fill our eyes as we watch the news clips of this tragedy are evoked again in reading this heartfelt poem, Ronald. And the last line is like a call to aid; if we join forces and share with our Haitian brothers and sisters, perhaps we can provide a bit of relief to their suffering. God bless you for your compassion and insight, Ron. Great poem that inspires us to want to help even more. Love, Carolyn

I pray and hope all those people were ready to meet the Lord...but in reality we know some probably weren't...And as time goes on we'll see more and more tragedies...we just need to be ready to meet God. It could happen anywhere....Good write...Marty

What happen in Haiti was a tragedy of the worst kind. And for them I am sympathetic and would help them any way I could. But man himself has a lot more to do with these things happening, than he thinks. Humanity must take responsibility for their life styles. Sincerely, Moses
