A Thousand Winters
How gently, next to me, you sleep,
How snug’s our cradle, and how deep!
A thousand winters could well pass
And I would never miss spring's grass.
Far off, outside, the snowy storm
Knows nothing of how smooth and warm
Is our embrace, and how complete
Our hearts become with every beat.
I muse so fondly on how true
Are my delight and love for you
And, as I see the sun’s first beam,
I sink into a restful dream.
