This poem is dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe. ~
A twilight's passing thought of your mysterious powers, in my lonely watch hours, as a thousand Ravens in whispered flight, their ebony eyes reflected in the moonlight. Your poetry, your solemn soul, my legendary prince, Westminster's ancient gates cannot contain- you captivated me ever since, my youth with a maiden heart, your verses of love I do impart, I'm advanced in my years, and have rained my share of tears. Oh, if only I could have known you, gazing into a photograph of your treasured eyes of an eclipse to which I cannot say "Adieu." Your spirit storming my psyche in its glories, as I read your timeless Gothic stories. I feel October's creeping bones of chill, your tragic lover's life, Edgar, then your pen went still.. Descending, slowly descending- from the heady spell of a midnight's reading, the bats' nocturnal hunt proceeding. My hearth is embers fading to sleep's calling, but my devotion never falling. I hear the awakened luminous-eyed owl's hoot, my joy for your gift of words resolute, as a thousand Ravens encircle the morose moon, and I dream of you midst the gloom. ~

Dearest Regina, soulful poetess, your golden pen spills such a deep, rich, heartfelt poem full of vivid imagery, vibrant metaphors of yearning and melancholy. Such a gripping, haunting, beautiful verse in dedication to Poe. I especially enjoyed "My hearth is embers fading to sleep's calling" - simply stunning! Your poetic artistry shines like the sun despite the dark glower of the "morose moon". Loved that too! Warmest wishes my wonderful poetry friend.. ~Susan

Since in 1970 I got my degree in English and Maltese literature. I never studied much on Poe and Longfellow. Which is a pity. I love ravens and used them in some of my poems. This is a great poem inspired by Poe and I admire the imagery so well described. As also the mood in the emotions so well described.

Thank you so much, dear friend Pangie. I didn't want the poem to be overly flowery, I wanted it to flow more easily. Perfect for 7th-8th grade. xoxx

I love this. He is one of my favorite authors, too. How many wonderful verses and tales he could have spun if he had lived a little longer.

Hi Ryan, thank you so much for stopping by to read and comment on my Poe tribute poem. It's such a shame Edgar died at 40. The world lost a great talent. I'm glad you like the poem I hope you have an inspirational Wednesday.

Outstanding poem, Regina! Impressive rhyme scheme and tribute to Poe. Poe has always been one of my favorite poets. I especially liked these words: I feel October's creeping bones of chill, your tragic life, Edgar, then your pen went still. When I taught high school English, my students never complained about reading Poe. Wishing you a pleasant evening, hugs, Sara (Faving)

Thank you so much, poetry friend. Edgar Allan Poe sure had a way with words. I'm not surprised your students didn't complain that they were studying his works. I added one word and two lines. My deep gratitude for you FAVing it. Have a creative day and God's bounty of blessings. :)
