A

Taste

of

Spring

A tiny, purple crocus pushes up To crack the surface of a thawing ground Soon hummingbirds end winter’s fast to sup With springtime’s royals waiting to be crowned Be patient if you long to see a rose This late spring bloomer always steals the show But in your yard a crop of nectar grows Enticing warblers eyeing treats below On winter days we’re tempted to sleep in But spring’s warm rays say, “Please just go outside” It’s time for nature’s art show to begin Blooms’ spectrum colors will not be denied Soon dancing butterflies in clusters seek A taste of spring to sate each thirsty beak March 2, 2021 For Regina McIntosh’s “Breath of Spring” Sonnet Contest.

Lovely Carolyn. And such a picture. I always love to see the crocus coming up through the snow. Such hardy early bloomers to bring us that longed for burst of beautiful color. God Bless, JB

I am still flummoxed as to how hummingbirds can endure winter's chill whilst my toes can not, but I did enjoy this! Aloha! Rico

Such a lovely spring sonnet, Carolyn. I love your imagery: "Please just go outside." So many of us have been homebound by this virus for so long. I've had two vaccinations and still don't feel safe and wear my mask!!!!

Congrats on getting both vaccines already, Milton. I've had the first. They say we should continue to wear our masks in case we are carrying the virus. I don't think it will be long before a semblance of normalcy returns.
