I invite you on a journey into the heart of salient nature, where the complex communications of the plant world take hold. Through the lens of stoic leaves and verdant light, I explore the unspoken wisdom and beauty inherent in our natural world. The poem is a testament to nature's resilience and quiet strength, celebrating its ability to thrive amidst the tempests of life. It's the lessons we can learn from the stoic forms of nature, the timeless loot that is lush and full of life. This Crown of Sonnets is made up of two sonnets, a corona, culminating in a couplet, and is a tribute to the silent war fought unseen in dark and light, a war that echoes the struggles and triumphs of life itself. I wanted this Poem to be an exploration of the interconnectedness of all things, a cryptic lore wisping through the rustling leaves and the soft sighs of the wind. This is not just a poem but a call to listen, to learn, and to appreciate the symphony that nature plays for those who have eyes to see, ears to hear, touch to feel, nose to smell, a curious mind, and are willing to experience and understand the salient life of plants.

Blessings,
Daniel Henry Rodgers

Sonnet I In realms of emerald hush, where sunlight strains Through veils of green, a silent throng takes root, A clovered congregation on the plains, Their stoic forms a timeless, lushful loot. No melodies from throats unseen they sing, No pleas for mortal ken their silence breaks, Yet in their rooted quietude, they bring A symphony for Nature's gentle stakes. From dust they rise, by unseen hands embraced, To greet the dawn's first kiss, a deep-green dream, Unfurling fronds that grasp the sun's warm face, A silent pact with life's sidereal stream. No eyes behold the light their essence drinks, No lips confess the air for which it thinks. Sonnet II Through fragrant whispers, secrets softly pass, On unseen currents borne, a cryptic lore, A web of messages that dance like grass, A wisdom newly sworn on Nature's floor. No clash of arms, no battles fought in vain, Yet messages they send on silent wings, A language dovetailed deep, a copious chain, A bond that knows no end, the green world sings. With patient strength, they pierce the earth's cold hold, A testament to will, unyielding, strong, Unmoved by tempests' raging fury bold, Their roots, like anchors, grip where they belong. A silent war against the storm's harsh might, A battle fought unseen, in verdant light. Corona A battle fought unseen, in verdant light, A symphony for Nature's gentle stakes. Hear, humans, etched in every stoic leaf, No melodies from throats unseen they sing. Through fragrant sotto voce, secrets softly pass, Their stoic forms a timeless, lushful loot. Couplet A lesson writ in green, a truth to glean, The verdant light, where life and wisdom sing.

Daniel, I'm thrilled you mentioned chlorophyll. We're so lucky that plants can absorb light energy and release oxygen in the process. It's fundamental to life as we know it. This will sound funny, but this organic magnesium compound is a beautiful product of evolution!

Dear Daniel, I'm back to say that you met your goal of showing interconnectedness in such a classical fashion. I have to ask you if you ever read the Secret Life of Plants from the 70's? "Messages they send on silent wings, a language dove tailed deep a copious chain". Perhaps thru meditation?

Daniel, CONGRATULATIONS and high fives for this poetic artistry! Every line is filled with amazing images, "clovered congregation," "from throats unseen they sing" and so many more! A great example of show not tell in your crown of sonnets - a challenging form at best! You make it look easy with your carefully, perfectly, chosen words. Love that the musician cannot be suppressed - "fragrant sotto voce." You write amazing poetry that always carries me to new heights. Blessings!

Your immersion into Viridescent life; Honors Mother Nature, astonishing. A dormant appreciation stirred awake, the subject beautified in poetry is primordially sensational. Sidereal stream, mortal ken, dovetailed deep, fragrant sotto voce—overcome, flushed floundering in goosebumps, gooseflesh chills and tingles! A symphony that nature plays for those who have eyes to see, ears to hear, touch to feel, nose to smell, a curious mind, and are willing to experience and understand the salient life of plants— all senses peeked indeed Daniel. Congratulations on your POTD! Enjoy your day ~Anaya

Great, beautiful POTD Daniel. It seems that in the silence of nature a lot's going on. I remember reading something about trees communicating with each other chemically through their roots. I also really liked the ending couplet.

Thanks so much, David; I started this poem back in January, left it, and came back several times. Most of us do not even think about how plants can communicate and react to various stimulants, depending on whether they are acceptable or not. I think one day we will develop a plant communications system. - Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Daniel, I'm pleased this Crown of Sonnets has been declared Poem of the Day. I've not been perusing the halls of Poetry Soup lately and may have missed reading it if not for the recognition today. Poetry and Sonnets always link arms for me, and as it was The Bard's birthday on the 23rd, how fitting yours are honored today. It's the simple things a poet sees...the unfurling fronds of a fern... such beautiful things in nature are oft overlooked, but they sing to poets, and we hear them.
