Author's Notes:  This particular write, entitled:  "A Spider's View" is a "Accentual Meter" type of poem that I wrote on February 18, 2015.  (I classified this poem in PoetrySoup under "Free Verse" since this type of accentual metered write is not normally listed under the PS classification pick-list.)  In this poem, I describe the view that a spider might have as he walks on his web or occasionally hangs around suspended on one of his web filaments in the corner of a ceiling.  Although this write is meant to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek, it does portray no less the intent and precision with which the spider in the poem pursues his two trapped victims and hastens their demise, and is able to eat his prey in the end.  In this same sense, I thought it was appropriate to mention Mr. Darwin along the way to harken back to the days of Biology 101 from former college days.  (Gary Bateman -- April 26, 2015) (Accentual Meter)

A Spider’s View Walking his web At ceiling corner Gazing downward Watching and waiting Patience absolute. Growing hungry Eyes focused Two victims Fly and Lady Bug Trapped in web. Sense of doom Survival of fittest Stronger species Spider’s appetite Sustenance waiting. Scheme of life— With Darwin smiling A winner, two losers Strongest wins And strongest eats. A Spider’s View On a typical day Each day similar But different Result—the same. Fixed in place Or hanging around— Multi-legged And multi-eyed— An Acrobat Supreme! Other than their creations, I have never cared for spiders, but this sheds a whole new light on them. Beautifully done.

ML, I actually don't like them either, but I did have the chance to observe one on one day hanging down from a web -- and this gave me the starter idea for this poem. Best Always, Gary

Spider weaves its web while you weave a web of poetic words with creative zeal and deep insight my friend. Yes its on page 11 in your new book, read it to my son last night. He said, spiders eat flies and bite people. I shot back but they prefer the flies.. lol A 7 , great poem as usual....

Glad you enjoyed this gem Robert. Spiders do normally try to stay away from people, but will do the nasty sting if they feel threatened. I actually like these Accentual Meter writes. I'm amazed that PS doesn't classify them as a category. Best Wishes Robert and keep reading my book and writing your fine poetry. Talk to you soon, and I hope all is going well. Gary

DC, That's why this spider (male or female) is what I coined "An Acrobat Supreme." I'm glad you enjoyed the read. Best Always, Gary

Thanks Anne-Lise!! Yes, I will be posting probably one poem a day for a while. I have a number of them waiting to be posted. I still have several follow-up things to do with my book although it was officially released worldwide on 9 April. I'm actually moving slowly back into things because of the very high tempo I was working at the last few months on my book. Less Stress this way. It's great to be back. Best Always, Gary
