A Sauk's Cry

Oh, misty river, flow gently in my mouth, Tie your silver ribbons around my feet, A diseased beast rides down your back, Planting tumors in your breast, Slowly surrounding me… Oh, mist river, kidnap my sorrow, Bind it to your cold, dark bones, Tears fall like rain drops, my eyes are the storm, I can see the smoke, the smoke of the white devil, Burning in your heart… Oh, misty river, take my soul, Drive your arrow into my lung, Let the emerald carpet grow through my skin, Let the beetles chew my brain, Save me from the white devil…
