A Prayer For Freedom
. for public domain
Une Prière pour la Liberté!
Note: I used "A Prayer for Freedom" as the title of the poem because this site does not permit using proper spelling of non english languages in the title. What a shameful pity.
French "Liberté!" came with the guillotine,
hand in hand; a much more refined axe,
yet the old quality of Judgment
unchanged, and so unchained, from a past
of Justice long hung, from an old mast
flagged so proudly with "Enlightenment".
Great ideas may emerge from great minds,
and great souls may suckle their newborn life,
newly arrived, a great blessed event,
manifest with all impurities,
no guarantees of security,
or advancing Freedom's argument.
Again and again we try and try,
despite all attempts that go awry.
We so willingly give our assent,
out of sheer hope or desperation,
to better the life of a nation.
Kneel and pray that it's not all hell bent.
