A Pier
And I once again I will walk out on the same pier
a pier I have walked on so many times
It's long and perfectly worn and wooden
It stretches far out into the water
So it's just me
far out in the lake
in the sky
and the mountains beyond
I have stood here so many times
Again and again and again and again
But the sky reaches down to touch the water
and the water reaches up with sparkling
happy diamonds
to express itself in joy to the sky
It reaches
to the Sun and even to humble me
The water splashes against the dock
with an irreplaceable lapping sound
I think there is no better sound in the world
water gently caressing the wood of a dock
Oh rock me sweetly and gently world
For I have come so far
fought so many battles
against myself
and my own human desires
and I have won !
I never gave in
I always stood my ground
and when I'm gone
I simply pray that the ripples I have sent out
into the world will echo back
I love you I love you I love you
I love you all more than I love me
