A Phone Call

I got a phone call today; Your Mom. She was more worried than yesterday; needed to know if you felt okay. She told me things to help us on our way; told her I would call her later in the day. I got a phone call today; You. Troubles breathing; it sounded worse today; hard to understand what you had to say, except you told me you didn't want to stay. Mind blank; could not think of anything to say. Remembered and told only of upcoming tasks today. Simply to the point; and keeping it that way. I want you to worry not, while you are away. I said," I love you more than words can say." Rest more, talk less; it is the only way. Hung up the phone wiping the tears away. Thoughts new to me; I actually want to pray. Stay strong; take care of business today. I got a phone call today; Your Doctor. Your lab results came back better today. Remaining stable; for at least another day. Got a laptop, so we can gaze upon while we say. Explained some things better than the internet, anyway. Confirmed that you were not coming home today. Answered many questions well along the way. Told me words I can't bear to even say; On oxygen you may have to stay. Not real soon, but you will be home someday. Then three words I needed him to say; That you are going to be okay.
