A Peaceful Place

Called upon to serve And keep our country free He stepped up, head held high With pride and dignity To him it was an honor Though bittersweet at times He felt the bonds of brotherhood And saw the worst of humankind He walked beside his brothers Down a path of blood and tears Never did he waiver In his faith or show his fear Now the dust has finally settled Gone are all but twenty-one guns And a lone bugle tells the world That this soldier's day is done When you look upon his face Don't hang your head to cry But know he's found a peaceful place And he's by his maker's side © MK Shirey

Hi Mary. I totally enjoyed this poem. The rhyme and meter make it so easy to read. I loved the patriotism, pride, dignity and honor that you conveyed. The fate that many soldiers have met with honor and now are by their makers side. very strong and heartfelt. Thanks for sharing...... Robert.
