OH, Just found this image. The mother has red hair like mine did when she was young, and the girl with short brown hair like I used to have. She even kind of looks like I did~~

Oh, give me a nook and a storybook there at my mother’s knee. Or tucked in bed, a pillow at my head as father reads to me. To hear nursery rhymes - wonderful times when Mother used my name inside a rhyme. Oh, for childhood sublime! Old age is not the same! Of Cinderella and a cute fella I used to listen to. Romantic the tale where all ended well, and love they said was true. But I’d graduate from my childlike state. Alone I soon would read less beautiful things, in which a prince brings no rose; instead, a weed. Oh, to return to before I could learn of life’s realities! Where endings were good I’d go if I could reliving memories. In that nook I’d be, my mother with me where books I’d learned to love. That would be enough because it’s the stuff fairy tales are made of!

Beautiful Andrea. There is such magic in the words of strories told to us as children. Opening doors to our hearts, our futures and our potential. Truly loved this.

Andrea, what a wonderful memory to hold and carry forward. I remember with great fondness my sixth grade teacher, Miss Lila Harper, who read to us each day after lunch. I can envision her perched on that 4-legged stool and reading to us about things that many of us would never have given thought to reading on our own. I'm so glad she had such wonderful insight into shaping the minds of her students. Congratulations, on your well deserved win, my dear friend.

Hi Andrea, Congratulations on your win in the contest. This is a lovely, simple rhyme, taking one back so easily to, what i think, the most wonderful time of all, childhood. This is another excellent write Andrea. A wonderful story Andrea. Had to be a winner. This is a seven and go into my faves. Hugs....Mike. XX

What a joy it was to read a story book in the nook of a house while feeling the love and tender care of one's mother. Beautiful write nicely woven and painted. This reminded me the long missed pleasures of our childhood days. Great one dear friend. Love and best wishes always...Ravindra K Kapoor

Hi Andrea, Nice! What an enchanting and transporting work. (Reminds me of when I was a wee lad and my dad used to read Mark Twain to me.) Good luck in the Nook contest! Cheers, Brian

I want to go with you if I can bring my own Mother. My thoughts for this theme echo yours, my Mom brought books to life and she loved us loving it. I can still hear her (of course she's 20 minutes away and occasionally reads aloud.) Light and delicate, touching without deep sadness - I found your poem perfectly and lightly ideal. hi ... CayCay

At Wel - Met camp they read "The Hobbit" to us and that is why I write a lot of Middle Earth poetry. Have you ever seen the film "How Green was My Vally"? In that film they show a scene with memories of tales that children love - as you and I did. Peace & Love Matthew Anish
