A Mothers Cherished Christmas Gift

My dear children Another Christmas has come, I hope you understand, Fancy things I cannot give to thee For our trials are many and riches we lack My heart is sad and my tears are silent, I cannot give to thee thy hearts desire. When you, my children were but tots, A simple box brought smiles and joy As you grew a few years more, Simple treasures you would adore. Now my dear children you have grown, As well as our trials and despairs Now I find it harder To give to thee what thy heart desires. I pray that you understand That I only have one gift for thee, A cherished Christmas gift, Filled with love and joy, Comfort and peace, Goodness and kindness, For these things are guaranteed Paid for and free. You see, Jesus our Savior gave these gifts to me Now I give these gifts to thee, And if accepted and cherished, Will give thee what thy heart desires. Merry Christmas my dear children I love you!
