A Matter of Taste
A poem is just a matter of taste
It's never good or bad
Our emotions put to paper
Every feeling we've ever had
We get caught up in perfection
And the true meaning gets away
Why is it not good enough?
Just because they say?
Sometimes people get carried away
And say, "It's all about the mechanics"
And before you know it, a poem's destroyed
When someone who's learning, panics
If it's truly our emotions talking
How can it be wrong or right?
Be supportive with your comments
Don't tell them they can't write
It doesn't matter, what they should have said
It's what they feel inside
So tell them to just keep writing
And they'll be glad they tried
So be careful in what you tell them
As you offer your critiques
And try to remember, everyone's different
And we all have different techniques
And when you enter that contest
It's not whether you win or lose
It's all about the judge's taste
So respect them as they choose
