A Loss of Tears

Watching the fires flicker across an endless expanse of mid-night-fallen forest. Ancient oaks and evergreens gnarled together, Forming the illusion of the deepest mile of a tempest torn sea. Bonfires create a patchwork façade. Flickering, Fading. Like lives, Lost loves, The dreams of youth. Each dot a communion for the suffering struggle of survival. Over this short stretch of days I have watched each campfire die, Heard the last survivors cry. Why could not even one maintain? The beautiful tapestry my eyes savored each night unraveled. The artist shackled. A loss of tears. Numb with pain. Watching every blaze snuffed-out the same.
