A Life of Tears

To escape your reality,
you tend to sleep your days away.
And at night, you prowl dark alleys
where scary shadows go to play.
The night air reeks of foul odors,
partially masked by cheap cologne.
Paranoia keeps your head hung
in hopes that you'll be left alone.
Your drug dealer stealthily stands
behind a shadowed garbage bin.
And he's eying you with contempt,
while wearing a cynical grin.
Sneering, he takes all your money
for a few grams of stepped-on dope.
Yet, your need outweighs any cost,
so you swallow your pride and cope.
Drug use conjures an illusion
to camouflage a life of tears.
And instantly, all of life's weight
just magically disappears.
