A Letter To God

Dear God I’ve never written a letter to you before So I hope this gets posted through heaven’s door Monterey Sirak asks ‘what inspired you to write?’ In simple words, it was my husband’s cancer fight It was a talent that was lurking but I didn’t know But when I post a poem people’s comments make my heart glow I never believed in myself but other poets think I’m great Joining Poetry Soup may have been more than down to fate Jenny Brewer saw my poems on a friends Facebook page Said I should post on ‘Soup’ my poems should be on a wider stage Took me two months to post – would others like what I write People are so lovely here, their comments are a sheer delight Over a hundred poems have flowed from my lilac pen I’ve collaborated on poetry with four incredibly talented men But God you have brought someone so so special into my life Darren Watson and I write as ‘jadazzle’ in one poem I am his wife I never ever dreamed writing poems would change my life for good I’ve got two friends to post one here my joy they understood I try to bring my humorous side in the words that I post To make people laugh and smile is what inspires me the most Not all of my poems are funny, some can really hit home Like alcoholism and bullying and feeling so alone So God I can only thank you for giving me this gift Revealing my hidden talent and giving my confidence a lift Jenny Brewer you are a true friend you mean the world to me With your intervention my creativity is finally free. 22nd May 2014

I really like this, Jan. Tim Ryerson is the friend who got me to Poetry Soup...just kept pushing me. I had not written for about twenty years. Had some heartaches and just quit, but he opened the floodgates again. I think of the Bible quote. "...stir up the gift that is within you..." Glad you are writing.

You should submit it, when you read the bible you can see that poetry is and intricate part of who God is. Each part of His creation is a beautiful poem. You are a fine example of His handy work. I enjoyed your letter very much.

Sadly It doesn't fit the criteria of the contest Richard it needed to be addressed to a 'poet' and Monterey has read the poem. This truly does sum up my journey here and I have gained so much since joining in February I just wanted it as a tribute and a reminder of how I came to be here. Hugs as ever Jan xxx

I've not had a loss Jessica - its a gain. I now have poetry soup and my husband is in remission and doing really well. I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot begin to understand your pain I still have both my parents but they are very elderly now and I am so lucky to still have them. . You will find in time you will write about it as many others do here. i can't believe how I bare my heart and soul through my poems its very therapeutic! Hugs Jan xxxx

Thank you so much for those lovely comforting words Lucilla. Without his cancer I would never behave started writing - is it down to fate who knows but being here has changed my life forever. His cancer has hopefully been cured - 3 negative blood tests so far. i wrote a poem called 'the enemy within' i hope we can continue to win the battle. God bless lucilla. Hugs Jan xxx

Thanks for the lovely comment Monterey. Your contest spurred me on to write this then I realised I couldn't submit it as it's not to a poet, but i had to post it anyway as it is a true story about my journey here. Thank YOU for the inspiration without your contest it wouldn't have been written! Hugs Jan xxx

Couldn't even attempt to say it better than Dave! "My life has changed since joining here and now I have confidence and am flying high" This is so great to hear dear sister! Think positive and positive things will surely happen! As much as what Poetry Soup has given to you, it has also given to me! Retiring just three years ago, I wandered around aimlessly until I discovered PS and sweeties like you! My heart goes out to you, dear sister... XOXOX

Jack YOU inspired me from day one of reading your words and since then we have become fabulous friends. I am not a particularly religious person but who else could I write about to thank them for changing my life. hugs as ever - wish i was coming with you and Cathie on that dream holiday but at least I can 'escape' on here in my dreams and forget stresses of life albeit for a short time. I mean every single word of it Carolyn - if it hadn't been for Jenny Brewer seeing something in my poems and persuading me to post on soup I wouldn't be having the time of my life! I have another poem dedicated to her called 'thank you for believing in me' Thanks for the lovely comment. Jan xxx
