A Gift From the Heart

She is 16 years old Going through adolescence With all the turmoil it blows One moment she is so charming The next it's as if The world has come to an ending One day all is well, life's a peach The next is war, everybody is stupid. And I wait for the cease fire, a bit of peace. Then a wonderful surprise Sunday morning she cooks breakfast For everybody and tells me not to rise Just relax and don't help The food was delicious to everyone's delight After the meal, I began to write a poem After a while, she calls me And asks me to come, “come where?”, I asked, “Just come here”, she says to me. She led me to the bathroom She had drawn me a bath With oils and sweet perfumes Had set a few candles that were lightened up And had put nearby everything I needed She even put a CD player With my favorite musical playing I was moved to tears by this unexpected gesture It was her gift to me for Mother's Day. What a wonderful gift from a wonderful girl with luv.. having four sons I don't get this kind of treatment but they do have strong arms so I never have to lift grocery bags much.. u enjoy the sweet girl ..they grow up fast ... my Mom used to say ... a son is a son till he gets a wife but a daughter is a daughter for the rest of your life... truth be told.. luv.. Surely there are some difficult moments raising teens, but it sounds like your daughter knew just what to do to make your Mothers Day perfect, Caroline. I'm so happy she pampered you in thanks for taking such good care of her. What a delightful poem!! Love, Carolyn
