A Firefighters Tears

A firefighters Tears You see him on the sidelines but you can't see his eyes. He's hoping no one's seeing the teardrops as he cries. Arriving in just minutes they did their best no doubt. But a child lost his life today before the fire got put out. He found his lifeless body in the hallway by the stair. He carried him outside as smoke rose from his hair. Trying to revive him his hands covered the boys whole chest. Sometimes good ain't good enough no matter it's your best. The other firemen saw as his body started shaking. Hands upon his shoulders his big heart was breaking. Standing by a dumpster the fireman heard a young voice say. I'm on my way to heaven and tomorrows my birthday. Too demanding not understanding he turned to see who's there. A young boy in pajamas and smoke rose from his hair. I'd like to stay and talk some more but I really gotta go. I'm gonna be just fine and I wanted you to know. He stepped out of the alley there was nothing he could say. An ambulance took the young boys body but angels carried him away. Edwin C Hofert
