A Daylight Person
A DAYTIME PERSON
6:00 a.m.
Shall I arise
Walk around in the gloom?
No! I am a daylight person
But I must get up
And I turn on every light in the house –
Still not enough illumination –
Day after day
Ah! But my black cats -
Their nocturnal, feline music -
They have a rather mystic night life
Black on black
All the inky corners
Take on an other-worldly void
What secret doings are in progress
Within those black holes?
Do kitty shades simply sit
Enjoying the safety afforded
Moonless sunless anonymity?
Well? Do black cats sleep at night
Holed in an invisible chamber
Eyes closed?
I think not!
Were I to search
One or another charmed corner
Might I easily discern a pair of blazing yellow eyes?
Nay probably several such pair
For cats are nesting creatures
Ah speculation
Mere speculation
For I am a daylight person
And will probably never know
