A Daydream
Pensively, she lowers the book, gaze wandering
Daydreaming about this other time and place
A woman's tale of hardship and the courage to live
For her, poverty and sorrow now given a face
A genteel lady she, born to wealth and privilege
Never thinking of a life without these things
Now these words have brought a realization
That perhaps great wealth a responsibility brings
She turned to the piano and played a haunting tune
Still thinking of the figures in the pages of her book
A premonition of a change in her life to come
A book, a moment, and a woman's new outlook..
