A Crown of Thorns
People said it was not Jesus' crown,
For pricked blood flowed as it would from any wound
And no miracle was seen.
People said that Jesus' head would not have fit
As the crown was small, too small,
And all the thorns looked new.
But every day the people prayed,
And one day the thorns played different -
More like Jesus would have worn...
And people said... the people said
That the playful priest tried it on his head
Each day before the Mass was sung.
