A Complicated Sadness

These monsters live Neither under my bed Nor at arms length But inside my head I know not from where they came The day the sea became the sky But I will soak their teeth with poison Until these tears should dry I ask what meaning there is to such misery And why I must know its name so well And why I see glimpses of heaven From amidst the brimstone, where I dwell There was a time, the sun smiled upon me For a moment, I knew what I lived for Once, there was a song that sang in me That sings in me no more
