A Christmas Story

The morning is hectic, with a hodgepodge of family I'm washing up dishes, while others are napping A clatter of dishes, ...oh,.. something is broken! Someone starts laughing, and all is forgotten Good smells from the kitchen, from the turkey, now roasting while Crosby is singing, and presents are opened The children are teasing the calico kitten One of the youngest, is having a tantrum! Into the bedroom, I go like a flash to tidy my hair, and put on a dress A moment's exile.....a moment to smile One moment alone....a refuge, a groan I'll take a deep breath, escaping the mess One minute to sigh, unwind and restore Then open the door, to the sounds I adore The family came home ....It is sheer, utter madness The family came home, and my heart swells with gladness! ______________________________________________________________ 12/26/15 What Christmas Means To Me

Well my friend, you threw me a little with the title until I read this wonderful and joyous celebration of family...My guess is that the 'brood' loves their 'Mother Hen' dearly and why wouldn't they? Happy New Year!!! - Tim

very clever and creative, Carrie. I read it as if it were nearly all blank verse, instead of free. it is metrical! CUTE
