A Christmas Conversation
A CHRISTMAS CONVERSATION
Long before the angels sang in heaven’s choir,
Long before a human had a heart’s desire,
There was God the Father, there was God the Son,
There was God the Spirit—there the Three in One.
They talked of redemption and a sacrifice
That would be required for eternal life.
Yes, God spoke of Christmas ages long ago;
He knew of the choices man would surely know.
He knew that the devil who would be cast out
Would bring man temptation and a cause to doubt.
He knew that He wanted fellowship again
With the man who yielded to the choice of sin.
Yes, God spoke of Christmas to His Son that day
As His word so tender to Him there did say,
“You must be the answer, You must come to earth
Born there in a manger by a virgin birth.
You must be rejected, beaten, abused, and torn;
You must bear man’s evil, listen to his scorn.
You must be forsaken by Me on that day
As You bear the burden on the cross that way.”
Yes, God spoke of Christmas to His son above,
It would be through Jesus He would show His love.
Jesus gave His answer, “Yes, I’ll surely go,
For You did create man, and You love Him so.”
So though man should ban Christmas, call it “holiday,”
And God so rejecting in that awful way,
That was just the reason God and Jesus knew,
Long before creation had this plan in view.
Yes, God spoke of Christmas, I’ll say it again;
I am glad for Christmas and God’s gift to men.
As I write this poem at this time of year,
I am glad that Jesus had a listening ear
To that conversation eons long ago
And that He was willing to come here below
Be the lamb to die that I could live again,
Shed His blood so freely for my every sin.
When I get to heaven, I’ll praise Him I know
For that Christmas conversation so very long ago.
