2 Strikes -The Color of My Skin and My Gender
I was born with 2 strikes against me
Number 1 I'm male, Number 2 I'm Black
No matter how intelligent I am
People try to hold me down
because I am Black
I'm well educated and I work hard
Because of the color of my skin
I'm still offered low paying jobs
I've never been in trouble,
I've never been in jail
Because of the color of my skin
I still struggle and it feels
like I'm living in hell
The 2 strikes people try to hold against me
It's their guilt and shame
I will continue to live my life
regardless of the color of my skin
The color of my skin will never change
One day I will be respected for my intelligence
People will know me because of my name
