Alex Morgan | VISA Player of the Match | USA vs Thailand

"By the end of the first half, the U.S. had taken a 3-0 lead. No one could have predicted they would score 10 more in the second half.  The United States' 13 goals is the most-ever scored in a World Cup match - men or women. Alex Morgan's five goals ties the single-game record in a Women's World Cup match held by Michelle Akers (USA).  The defending champions proved why they are the favorite. Seven different women combined for the 13 goals.  "We were really clinical," Alex Morgan said of their attacking play. "Every goal matters in this tournament.  "In the end, the U.S. notched 13 goals on 39 shots, 21 of which were on target. Thailand blocked nine of the shots, but gave up 10 corner kicks." --CBS News

Should the USWNT have stopped celebrating goals against Thailand in World Cup blowout?  "Unsurprisingly, plenty of soccer fans took issue with the celebrations. Fox Sports host Rob Stone went as far as to say that the USWNT should have pulled back after going up huge.  `This got humiliating at some point. It just became an exercise in target practice...You know what I wanted to do? Pull it back, knock it around.'  The EverydayReporter tweeted: `Celebrating after scoring 6 goals against an opposition which has never played a WC match before just shows how classless #USWNT is. #WWC2019.' --Michael Chow-USA TODAY Sports
