Ultralights
low
flying
ultralights
endanger geese,
threaten airliners,
and aggravate people
with incessant humming noise
which can bring on migraine headaches,
the wealthy man's least preferred ailment.

Road Rage
Roaring round roads raucously
Orally overtly offending operators
Acrid antagonistic adjectives aired
Defiantly daring distracted drivers
Ranting raving railing
Aggravate annoy atrocious
Gregarious gone Goebbels
Exacerbate engage enrage...

Indoor Tent
Inside the little indoor tent,
H and H and Nana went
To sit there cozy, warm and snug;
It felt like an extended hug.
A private world we did create
With nothing there to aggravate –
My grandkids (ages 1 and 3)
And happy (but exhausted) me....

Vindication
Many a confession is more than a sin injurious
For you may seek to a harm alleviate
Mumble for words and make assumptions erroneous
Yet do sink it and quagmire aggravate
So never torpedo an apology with an excuse
Destitute of exploits, your atonement is of no use....

Ice Cube
(This is a fictional poem)
I've watched him in Friday and in Barbershop.
Last week Ice Cube beat me up and he wouldn't stop.
I kissed a lady who turned out to be his girlfriend.
I'm in the hospital and it will take awhile for my broken bones to mend.
If you see Ice Cube, don't aggravate him and don't make him mad.
He'll kick your ___ too because he is bad....

I do not know?
Garbage
am I to aggravate
the drool of lore of the lure and rule
walking the streets I know my shit
do not disturb the fool
as seldom seen she tells you
keep away from my stoops
to raise an agenda
I got it covered the birds
a welcome but the rats
not in my house
a deck of cards to deal
the trash a puzzle
in their trucks
to be discarded
if you tell me...

Weed Whacker
A line trimmer doesn’t really eat;
That’s a trick that would be quite neat.
Instead, it tends to aerosolize,
Throw grass in your nose and rocks in your eyes.
Turns poison ivy to a fine mist;
I know you think I’m a fantasist.
The next event: the shower dash
Or you will break out in a rash.
Correctly named, it sure does whack
And aggravate my lower back.

King James Wisdom
Hateful speech doth not one become
Neither doth a lieing tongue
Filthy language hurteth the ear
Threatening words causeth hearts to fear
A gossips whisper is poison indeed
A flatterers words its caution thou need
Hasty words are ones mistakes
Bragging words doth aggravate
When thou speaketh use wisdom and grace
And thou willst not have egg on thine face

Seventy-Eights
I just bought a record player but it won't play my seventy-eights.
It only plays thirty-threes and forty fives and that's something I hate.
I have over a hundred seventy-eights with some terrific singers.
But to be able to play them, I have to spin the wheel really fast with my finger.
My hand is getting tired and this sure does aggravate.
I want a record player that will play my damn seventy-eights....

I do not know?
I'M Not
I'm not on to intimidate
Like to communicate
And will not hesitate
To always motivate
And to dedicate
Of course associate
One whom graduates
I don't navigate
To try to rotate
Or try to retaliate
And then speculate
Or try to manipulate
To always aggravate
That would frustrate
Then have to translate
What I don't want to communicate.

Study Poem: Unseen Immortality
I’ll stay in the shadows
accruing interest on accolades due
for quietly providing remedies
which combat worldly ails.
Those who seek praise may stumble upon
beneficial consequences of their actions,
but more often they aggravate sores,
hidden by their alacrity.
So it will continue into eternity;
my admonitory words will be forgotten
until the ages of dust which adorn them
solidify; proving my words adamant....

A Smoother Ride
Life is short but shorter still
If all your battles go uphill
So sometimes, keeping thoughts inside
Will help you have a smoother ride.
If you just can’t, at least you’ll know
Resentment will have room to grow,
Providing bumps along the road
From anger that has overflowed.
To keep your journey swift and straight,
When something starts to aggravate
Just suck it up and zip your lip
To guarantee a safer trip....

The Bustle
Quickly wake up, shower and shimmy
You're late for work and kids for school!
Eventually arriving, settling into the routine
Suddenly you realise you forgot something at home!
All's a mess, again you overslept!
Traffic's just crazy, your hairs a disaster
Barely time to breathe, let alone eat!
Afternoon pickups, late for hockey practice
Its homework and laundry, then off to bed
Awaiting the bustle that's sure to aggravate!...

Act Now
Act Now
Dr. James E. Martin
©January, 2014
Why do we continue to wait?
Is there a chance we’ll all be late?
These questions will many aggravate
And result in much heated debate.
Should not we all now act?
Must we from this retract?
The answers are clearly stacked
And this is a settled fact.
About this we all surmise.
And with it more questions arise.
We wait to our own demise
And show that we’re not very wise....

Setting the Matter Straight
There are times when you’re distracted
And you even can forget
To take care of business; maybe
It’s not happened to you yet.
But in time, it’s bound to happen
And perhaps you’ll be dismayed
For you’ll realize that a slip-up
Is the price that you have paid.
Some distractions may cause damage;
Others only aggravate.
If you’re lucky, you’ll recover
And can set the matter straight.
*I rarely miss a day of posting a poem.
I did yesterday......

Sheer Happiness Aggravates the Naysayers
It is so peaceful today!
SHHHHHHH someone hisses.
You will ruin it.
But it really is a terrific day.
Three people give her a quick glare.
She laughs.
Not caring at all.
Optimism cannot be squelched.
She is in a wonderful mood.
Begins to sing Oh What a Wonderful Morning!
Loudly and proudly.
The naysayers are instantly in a bad mood.
Go home with glaring faces.
Silly co-workers.
She smiles at how well she can aggravate them
With sheer happiness....

Mish Mosh
Mish mosh of feelings, I can’t see the top.
Oh, these bad feelings, just when will they stop?
They muddle and cloud up the thoughts in my head
To the point that I’m swearing, something I dread.
They overcome me when I least expect it.
They aggravate me. I did not select this!
I wish they would go and leave me far behind,
Then clear and good feelings would be easy to find.
Do not get me wrong I am not crazy, you see.
Just a little confused, that’s when I hate to be me....

What Little Sisters Are For
We are innocent
And stupid
(In the view of our elders)
Extremely naïve
We turn the blame on our siblings
Just for fun
Or to see what trouble you get in
We try to protect
Older brothers and sisters
-Even though we are no use-
Hate being the youngest
But then realise it would suck being the oldest
We anger you
Aggravate you
We make you scream
And make you shout
Even sometimes make you cry
But at the end of the day you love us
Because without- what kind of a boring life
Would you live in?...
