Your Tears
There in your gaze your anger
steams past swollen cherry lids
and your confusion is lost in your glazed stare.
The beauty of your dreams now disappears.
You cry,
and the pain seems washed away.
The tears stream, welcome,
dripping from your softly rounded chin
cleansing you of the
ache of memories that remain.
Again they come
but now from gleaming, smiling eyes.
Before him you stand in flowing white,
hand in hand, the words come easily
as he gently brushes your cheek.
You taste the sea
with each tear that escapes,
past his warm touch,
caressing the corners
of your upturned lips.
Once more
you lay bare your emotional disarray
as first she, and then he,
are laid to sleep in their final bed.
So profusely you mourn them,
as if life stopped
when they went away.
So many tears you cried
day after long, lonely day
as the streams became rivers in your grief-filled dismay.
Time passes
as wonder and joy fill you,
one... two... gentle drops Christen her forehead
and you gently wipe each one away.
The weariness and pain
pushed aside by each sweet tear
for the beautiful life lying in your arms,
clutched with care in your swaddling embrace.
So tightly you hold her
as if you fear she'll disappear.
Even when the sky is dark and tears of rain fall heavy upon you
heaven's rainbow yet smiles.
Each teardrop you weep
cajoles and comforts you,
convincing you that all will be well.
They help you to accept the pain you have felt.
They remind you of your happiness
and that beauty is not but a dream.
I envy your every tear
for some of us are not allowed to cry.
