October comes drifting with beautiful decay
the garden is fading and I must say goodbye
trees are removing their bright emerald gowns
but, oh so lovely are their rainbow cloaks
and soon the air is full of flying, floating leaves
of soft yellow, gold, orange and red
It is like the end of a love affair
for I have such a melancholy feeling within
there is a sadness and beauty in the dead leaves
cool days have meant a closet reorganization
put away are the Summer sundresses I love
the bright colors have been replaced
by somber, although still quite beautiful
The animals are gathering and I am gathering
I am seeking perfect October leaves to press in books
before the falling rain ruins their loveliness
each day nature is winding down
getting ready for a complete change
for awhile the trees will stand stark and naked
then, magically they will be wearing snow white gowns
