Not Alone

I see him walking awkwardly With faltering baby steps A wizened shadowy figure A man over eighty with an arching body Carrying the carcasses of lost aspirations He has seen thousands of auburn sunsets Now timorously inching his way Friendless, solitary and deserted May be towards his final sunset, Beyond which is utter darkness! I see in him my aged father A fellow pilgrim heading to a common destination God speaks to me through his eyes He has opened the door for me to a living light I value him so much that I want To make him feel loved and cared Before the night darkens and he stumbles and falls Let me hold his hand for a while Be with him for some time To brighten his world for a fleeting moment Before he falls down dead Before I am too weary to care As I suture his wounds and apply a little balm Over the scalding burns of his mind If he feels, he is not alone, but with company Oh sure, my heart will quiver As an opening blossom of joy! "As I suture his wounds and apply a little balm Over the scalding burns of his mind" Beautiful, such an intense and deep look into the heart and mind of a human soul. This loving balm is all we have to offer, but it makes such an enormous difference to the wounded bearer of many sorrows. You are a very gifted poet my sweet friend <3

A sense of empathy so refined on display here, Valsa. An ordinary being like me can hardly imagine it. Takes my breath away. In Awe, Gershon

Beauty when we can seek to be a light and show love to all , many wonderful people that live a hard life trying to do good in a worlds view taught by man , die from lack of knowledge and someone being a light to show love and encouragement, take care

Your first impression of the man evoked care and kindness. If everyone had that instinct, the world would be a better place. I like the endearment you convey, Valsa. Best to you.

Ahh!! I like the metaphors used within these lines. The emotions spring off the page for the reader to grasp. Reads like a winner for the contest to me. Way to go. Thanks for sharing and for dropping by my page. Sara

I posted a picture of Theresa of Loiseau where she said, f you have nothing to do just smile or utter a brief salutation. I learnt that lesson quickly enough. You can see that lesson on my facebook.

Sometimes a little act of kindness can makes someone's day especially for elderly people who often struggle with simple tasks. Well written Valsa and hope your week ahead will be a good one. Tom
