A legendary tale of love I know about two very brilliant people who were soul mates living centuries ago. They shared much hardship but their love stayed true. Truth seeker Heloise sought Abelard. Great teacher of philosophy was he. But people’s thinking in that time was marred. Then Heloise got pregnant, secretly the couple wed, but Heloise was forced to give her baby up, which broke her heart. When Abelard was maimed; both were coerced into monastic lives and lived apart. Found letters prove their love could never die. Together in a tomb in France they lie! March 6, 2020 for Chantelle Anne Cooke's "Your Favorite Legend" Poetry Contest I guess it's not 100% certain that they are together in that tomb because their remains got moved around. For sure, they are together in the afterlife!

Andrea, I've never heard of Heloise and Abelard. This is an intriguing tale and Sonnet 'A Legendary Love'. What a very different time it was then. So glad to find this today. -Richard

Wonderful choice! I was raised with their love story which seemed to me more a story about man's inhumanity to man and dominance over women. Even if it is the "wrong" choice, I believe everyone has a right to love and to "suffer" the consequences thereof. Life is the best teacher! Aloha! Rico

How were you raised with this love story? That is so fascinating to me. Most people, like me, were never taught this story. I just chanced upon it when I saw the book at the library.

yes, man's inhumanity to man and dominance over women, of COURSE. Because this was in sonnet form, I could do no more than insinuate those things with line 7: "But people’s thinking in that time was marred." Even when parted, SHE loved HIM more than he seemed to care for him. Isn't that sad? (that is what I got from what I read in the biography of them)
