A Case For Greatness Mother's Day Dedication
I must apologize to all those who claim
that they have "The Greatest Mom in the World!"
For I know that they are all misinformed
Please jury, don't think me cruel
but my mom always taught me to tell the truth
So today under oath I will present my case
I have seen the cups and tee shirts
In some cases even trophies
Each one prominently displaying
this title and highest of honours
Although I am sure these women
are all quite extraordinary
today on this most cherished of days
I wish to make my case.
For me the truth of this matter
began fifty six years ago.
For you see my mom became practiced
In the art of mothering sixteen months
before I was born.
For when my brother was born
She gazed deeply into his blue eyes
In that moment she loved him
with all the power of her being
If you had asked her
she would have told you
it would be impossible
to love with such intensity again
Then came blue eyed baby number two
Now blue eyed baby number two
yours truly AKA Ricky
was born on the eighth of September 1961
Any other mere mortal would have been exhausted
For you see after a year of changing diapers
and also being married to the biggest blue eyed baby of them all
our not so dear (young dad at the time)
who would later only make it to not so loved (middle age dad)
My triumphant arrival was greeted by her most amazing smile
For in that moment was born a love that my blue eyes have cherished
through the years
As most children do I have tested her love in many ways
Still I can say that her love never wained
In fact this heart has never witnessed any limits to her love
When my sister, blue eyed baby number three was born
I should have somehow felt less loved
However I can assure you
that not once in my many years
have I ever not felt completely loved by her
Hers is the familiar voice that brings me comfort
Hers is the laugh that ads measure to my joy
From her mischievous I have gained my good humour
From her strength I have absorbed my resilience
Even in her times of pain she has not been lacking in compassion
Hers I submit is the most generous of spirits
For I have witnessed her dance through her adversity
and never has she been one to wallow in her sorrow
Therefore with confidence and love
I submit to you the jury
that this amazing women AKA Mama Bear
is indeed the "The Greatest Mom in the World
