The Sorcerer And The Cobbler

One midnight, a lightning from the dark sky struck a big old tree in a place called Wire Country. The biggest, tallest and oldest tree in the area was broken in half. Nobody saw it as all residents are in deep sleep that night except for one homeless cobbler sitting on a cold bench. He saw everything because the cobbler was looking at the dark, starless sky wishing for a star to appear. It was not a rainy night -- no storm or strong winds. Early morn, people of the community were awed by the incident, seeing the big old tree broken in half. The tree stood there in the epicenter of the park for more than a century, but now it's gone -- sliced in the middle like a cheese. For three consecutive days, people were restricted to walk around the ravaged spot to clean the big tree's scattered branches and burnt roots. The cobbler moved to a different bench not too far from the incident. He slept there every night for about a month. One night, a policeman was roving around and asked the cobbler to move to a different place. The cobbler was suspected as a burglar. The cobbler complied and disappeared in the dark. Minutes later, the policeman was covered by a big, dark shadow, twisted the policeman's neck and died instantly. In the following nights, unexplainable events happened. People of the community were scared and children are no longer allowed to go outside after eight in the evening. One early evening, the cobbler returned to the said bench where he used to sleep for one whole month. He was looking for a ring that slipped through his ring finger while asleep. He found that ring underneath the burnt roots of the tree on the very same night the tree was struck by lightning. Fortunately, he found the ring underneath the bench covered by some dirt. With the ring are some of his coins that he earned for mending shoes. While walking in the park that night alone, the cobbler felt something strange. The ring in his hand is wiggling. He felt someone is following him. He looked behind but there's no one. Suddenly, a big man with a cloak confronted the cobbler. The man hit the cobbler with a staff and fell on the ground. The cobbler immediately stood up and appeared to the man as a burning bush. The man was set ablaze and ran away. In the succeeding nights, the same big man tried to trick the cobbler. One time he disguised as a woman, transforming like a real woman from head to toe with a very sweet, soft voice. The woman is tall and physically attractive to the cobbler, but the cobbler can sense that behind the woman's body is the sorcerer. The big man is the sorcerer who lost his precious ring. But even without his ring, he can perform magic and hurt anybody with his powers. He has a wooden staff and an amulet to transform himself into anybody or anything whenever he wishes to. He wanted to cripple the cobbler several times. Problem is, the cobbler possesses the most powerful weapon that the sorcerer ever had. The sorcerer is intimidated by the cobbler because he can't touch the cobbler. He can't even steal the ring because the ring itself serves and recognizes only one master. The only way the sorcerer can have the ring back is when the ring is voluntarily given or awarded to him by the wearer. There is so much hatred in the heart of the sorcerer. He wanted to spread evil and chaos everywhere for losing the ring. The poor cobbler is a middle aged-man, but stands for what is right and just The battle between the Sorcerer and the Cobbler has just began...
