Quote Left Peaceableness toward enemies is an idea that will, of course, continue to be denounced as impractical. It has been too little tried by individuals, much less by nations. It will not readily or easily serve those who are greedy for power. It cannot be effectively used for bad ends. It could not be used as the basis of an empire. It does not afford opportunities for profit. It involves danger to practitioners. It requires sacrifice. And yet it seems to me that it is practical, for it offers the only escape from the logic of retribution. It is the only way by which we can cease to look to war for peace. ... Peaceableness is not passive. It is the ability to act to resolve conflict without violence. If it is not a practical and practicable method, it is nothing. As a practicable method, it reduces helplessness in the face of conflict. In the face of conflict, the peaceable person may find several solutions, the violent person only one. Quote Right
Quote Left 'In the bad old days reference to Blacks/women/Jews/others were in negative language which perpetuated poor treatment/ abuse/ exploitation of these people. Animals have suffered more from negative language stereotyping than all the others, and demeans them so constantly that they created an environment that allows all sorts of cruelties, many too horrendous to describe! An animal is 'it' instead of 'he' or 'she', this perpetuates our view of them as 'things' rather than individuals and is a major first step towards cutting them up for meat and leather, testing drugs/cosmetics/ household products on their bodies, and tearing off their coats for furs!!! Those who have pets are referred to as 'owners' rather than guardians/care givers/companions, reinforcing the idea that they are property much as slaves were considered property. Let's avoid these references: Dirty rat; filthy pig; acting like an ass; dirty dog; she's a bitch; ugly duckling; there's more than one way to skin a cat; behaving like an animal; making a monkey out of someone; killing 2 birds with one stone; working like a horse, you're chicken ... There are many more! Please think before uttering them and tell others. Thank you!' Quote Right
Quote Left I never said I had no idea about most of the things you said I said I had no idea about. Quote Right
Quote Left The sight of a Black nun strikes their sentimentality; and, as I am unalterably rooted in native ground, they consider me a work of primitive art, housed in a magical color; the incarnation of civilized, anti-heathenism, and the fruit of a triumphing idea. Quote Right
Quote Left I have an idea that some men are born out of their due place. Accident has cast them amid certain surroundings, but they have always a nostalgia for a home they know not. They are strangers at their birthplace, and the leafy lanes they have known from childhood or the populous streets in which they have played, remain but a place of passage. They may spend their whole lives aliens among their kindred and remain aloof among the only scenes they have ever knows. Perhaps it is this sense of strangeness that sends men far and wide in the search for something permanent, to which they may attach themselves. Perhaps some deep-rooted atavism urges the wanderer back to lands which his ancestors left in the dim beginnings of history. Sometimes a man hits upon a place to which he mysteriously feels that he belongs. Here is the home he sought, and he will settle amid scenes that he has never seen before, among men he has never known, as though they were familiar to him from his birth. Here at last he finds rest. Quote Left Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-eight million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea... Quote Right
Quote Left Without poets, without artists, men would soon weary of nature's monotony. The sublime idea men have of the universe would collapse with dizzying speed. The order which we find in nature, and which is only an effect of art, would at once vanish. Everything would break up in chaos. There would be no seasons, no civilization, no thought, no humanity; even life would give way, and the impotent void would reign everywhere. Quote Right
Quote Left The idea that nations should love one another, or that business concerns or marketing boards should love one another, or that a man in Portugal should love a man in Peru of whom he has never heard --it is absurd, unreal, dangerous. The fact is we can only love what we know personally. And we cannot know much. Quote Right
Quote Left A great city, whose image dwells in the memory of man, is the type of some great idea. Rome represents conquest; Faith hovers over the towers of Jerusalem; and Athens embodies the pre-eminent quality of the antique world, Art. Quote Right
Quote Left The art of writing is mysterious; the opinions we hold are ephemeral , and I prefer the Platonic idea of the Muse to that of Poe, who reasoned, or feigned to reason, that the writing of a poem is an act of the intelligence. It never fails to amaze me that the classics hold a romantic theory of poetry, and a romantic poet a classical theory. Quote Right
Quote Left We are not anxious to grab the easiest dollar. The tourist dollar alone, unrestricted, is not worth the devastation of my people. A country where people have lost their soul is no longer worth visiting. We will encourage only small numbers of visitors whose idea of a holiday is not heaven or paradise, but participation in a different experience. We shall try to avoid the fate of some of our Caribbean neighbors who have ridden the tiger of tourism only to wind up being devoured by it. Large super-luxury hotels with imported management, materials, and values bring false prosperity with the negative side effects of soaring land prices that kill agriculture, polluted beaches, traffic jams, high rise construction that ravages hillsides and scalds the eyeballs - the very problems that the visitors want to forget. Quote Left Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it's done right. Quote Right
Quote Left LESTER: I had always heard your entire life flashes in front of your eyes the second before you die. First of all, that one second isn't a second at all, it stretches on forever, like an ocean of time... For me, it was lying on my back at Boy Scout camp, watching falling stars... And yellow leaves, from the maple trees, that lined my street... Or my grandmother's hands, and the way her skin seemed like paper... And the first time I saw my cousin Tony's brand new Firebird... And Janie... And... Carolyn.I guess I could be pretty pissed off about what happened to me... but it's hard to stay mad, when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst......and then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... You will someday. Quote Right
Quote Left I didn't have any idea what I was gonna say...couldn't come up with the correct words... enough gratitude... enough to tell the Shelbys how I felt. Quote Right
Quote Left An artist is someone who produces things that people don't need to have but that heù for some reasonù thinks it would be a good idea to give them Quote Right
Quote Left Napoleon affords us an example of the danger of elevating one's self to the absolute, and sacrificing everything to the carrying out of an idea. Quote Right

Quote Left The present-day mentality, more perhaps than that of people in the past, seems opposed to a God of mercy, and in fact tends to exclude from life and to remove from the human heart the very idea of mercy. The word and the concept of 'mercy' seem to cause uneasiness in man, who, thanks to the enormous development of science and technology, never before known in history, has become master of the earth and has subdued and dominated it. This dominion over the earth, sometimes understood in a one-sided and superficial way, seems to leave no room for mercy.... Quote Right
Quote Left Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it’s done right. Quote Right
Quote Left We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions. Quote Right
Quote Left The universe is merely a fleeting idea in God's mind -- a pretty uncomfortable thought, particularly if you've just made a down payment on a house. Quote Right
Quote Left The fatal metaphor of progress, which means leaving things behind us, has utterly obscured the real idea of growth, which means leaving things inside us. Quote Right
Quote Left In every child who is born, no matter what circumstances, and of no matter what parents, the potentiality of the human race is born again and in him, too, once more, and of each of us, our terrific responsibility toward human life toward the utmost idea of goodness, of the horror of terror, and of God. Quote Right
Quote Left An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea Quote Right
Quote Left If any man has drunk a little too deeply from the cup of physical pleasure; if he has spent too much time at his desk that should have been spent asleep; if his fine spirits have become temporarily dulled; if he finds the air too damp, the minutes too slow, and the atmosphere too heavy to withstand; if he is obsessed by a fixed idea which bars him from any freedom of thought: if he is any of these poor creatures, we say, let him be given a good pint of amber-flavored chocolate... and marvels will be performed. Quote Right
Quote Left A Woman is home caring for her children! even if she can't. Trapped in this well-built trap, A Woman blames her mother for luring her into it, while ensuring that her own daughter never gets out; she recoils from the idea of sisterhood and doesn't believe women have friends, because it probably means something unnatural, and anyhow, A Woman is afraid of women. She's a male construct, and she's afraid women will deconstruct her. She's afraid of everything, because she can't change. Thighs forever thin and shining hair and shining teeth and she's my Mom, too, all seven percent of her. And she never grows old. Quote Right
Quote Left That certainly is one approach to take. My own is to acknowledge the inner child and try to work with my first fascination with science fiction. I have tried to build on its idea content and narrative drive rather than to discard them. Quote Right
Quote Left The car as we know it is on the way out. To a large extent, I deplore its passing, for as a basically old-fashioned machine, it enshrines a basically old-fashioned idea: freedom. In terms of pollution, noise and human life, the price of that freedom may be high, but perhaps the car, by the very muddle and confusion it causes, may be holding back the remorseless spread of the regimented, electronic society. Quote Right
Quote Left What do I think of Western civilisation? I think it would be a very good idea. Quote Right
Quote Left The other day I bumped into Santa Claus. A good bump it was, too! I ought to have been arrested, for there is no open season on Santa Claus. But sometimes a first class collision is an exciting thing. It will knock the wind out of you, and it may knock an idea into your head. True, this Santa Claus did not have the white cotton whiskers or a red coat, but she was the real thing all right! Santa Claus in the flesh and plenty of it. A lady who looked like an animated Christmas tree with packages dangling from very limb and I bumped and spilled. As I was trying to pick up the packages she gasped out, Oh, I hate Christmas anyhow! It turns everything upside down. To which I said, That is just what it was made for. This lofty sentiment did not stop her dirty looks at all. But it is the big thing about Christmas. Quote Right

Quote Left Intelligence is extremely emotional coz emotions analyse and rise. The chariot of emotions move in right directions isn't always destined. Righteousness alone qualifies to be the ideal charioteer. Lord Krishna... The subconscious charioteer in form of coiled life force in the spine, always resides..... It's just that inspite of being focused upon gazing the world, we got to look with in n shine. Quote Right
Quote Left Loyalties are important, yet they can travel only so far. One comes to question that commitment, such as, is it to an ideal cause; or to an individual, who's actions give one pause. If the answer returns some clarity, with a consensus, but conflicting view, one can finally reach a conclusion; to thine self, will you be true. Quote Right

Quote Left Jesus went behind the enemy lines of empire with no physical armour, no sword, no army and defeated the might and power of the Roman Empire, and all empires, past, present and future. He did it by wisdom and insight, spiritual power, identity, love and a cross mixed with His resurrection, ascension and glorification. The Romans had no idea what happened. Nothing has changed much has it? Quote Right
Quote Left We all love the people who we can never save. We like the idea of being a hopeless romantic with tragic ending. We love the sadness until we experience it and then we hate ourselves for falling for people who we could not stop from jumping from the cliff. We play with danger and then blame the fate for pushing us. We kiss the death and then cry over the bruised body. Quote Right

Quote Left God gave to man free will, carrying with it the power of choice, leading to differing views becoming the common framework of mankind. Nowhere in this creation, did it speak of imposing one's will upon another ( that was man's alone ), thus destroying the origin and ideal. The challenge lies with gathering these strands of diversity that can be woven into a tapestry that endures beyond a single thread. This fabric of humanity is the remnant to survive. Quote Right
Quote Left Imitation is only for the mediocre minds. Big minds create their own ideas. Where small minds live in the shadow of others, big minds soar independently across the horizon. Quote Right
Quote Left Wisdom is based on experiences in life, a poor man can become rich if he learns the essential steps that lead to success, but a wealthy man won't bear the humiliating idea of becoming poor. This is the real conflict between wealth and poverty. The poor man will be still humble if he loses everything, but the rich man will still have his pride and vanity. Quote Right
Quote Left I am all for cremation. Love it (the idea of it all)...cremation it is! ashes released to a breeze (not interred into some cavity of a wall, like a nagging, painful, loose filling); ashes released into a breeze, balmy, or freezing full of life, that carries it into the nostrils and bodies of the gorgeously unsuspecting, eventually infecting their minds in ways they are totally unaware of, yet magic still remains. Quote Right
Quote Left I’ve been writing for many years. Sometimes it is a catharsis and sometimes it is just fun. Most of my work is stuck in an old desktop so here are a few I’ve written in recent years. I thought it might be a good idea to get feedback again so I hope you’ll take a few minutes to drop me a thought or two. I look forward to doing the same. Quote Right
