Paul,
My motivation comes from trying to push poetry to limts established by the masters, Baudelaire,
Goldsmith, Wordsworth etc. Somehow our poetry got trite, stupid, banal, irritating, irrelevant,
wishy washy, worthless, purposeless, valuable only to the writer. If I just could contribute a little to relaxing the smirk on non-poets' faces when you mention the word "poetry" I'd be happy.
