Thirty contests so far of my premiere 'how it reads aloud' contests.Perhaps time for a few observations that may help those folk whose poems who have not yet been awarded the ' gold PS trophy'.
1. My contests have a maximum no of lines and a minimum of 1 (plus the title) so each time your submission can be any number of lines from that minimum upto the stated maximum.
2.Any theme ( the topic is your choice) but clearly my opinion is subjective
3.Any form is okay as I ignore the technicalities thereof and read it aloud,so punctuation and cadence guides my voice .
4.When I read your poem aloud (the apex of our art in my view) I am expecting a unique 'as is moment' between you the author's 'voice' of the poem and my 'ear'.
5. I am happy for just a stanza or two from a longer poem of yours ( than my stated max for the particular contests ) provided the poem 'stands alone ' poetically ..and ...reads aloud... and... of course is re submitted in that new way for my contest.
6.The no name condition ensures the contest is impartial .I do not read poems on PS other than those submitted to my contests.I find out the winning poets just as you do when I click on the 'contest winners ' link.
7.As I have mentioned before there are just 10 places per contest so if you feel your poem meets my criteria I have no problem with a resubmission.
As some folk here already know I am an imagist at heart. As the creator of a number of short forms here on PS ( the footle perhaps being my most well known) I am not averse to wit and humour .My favourite poets are Adelaide Crapsey, Emily Dickinson,Christina Rossetti and Marianne Moore .
It is a great privilege to read aloud all your poetry. These contests are a valued part of my daily routine .My grateful thanks to every one for your support in helping this focus on the 'apex of our art'
