My Next Contest: MY SPICE BOX, SENSUAL WRITING. FOR ADULTS.

Blog Posted:2/13/2013 11:00:00 PM

My next contest: My Spice Box: Sensual Poetry... perhaps Pandora’s box? We’ll see.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to pen a sizzling, sensual poem, any form over 8 lines but less than 50, that uses suggestion, innuendo and/or metaphor. I am asking you to lean your write to the tasteful side, but to tantalize and make the ink steam.

Soup has restrictions so though I’m inviting you to spice things up, remember that this site is for all ages... don’t think cathouse... yawn....think burlesque fan dance!  There is nothing poetic about a jackhammer... lol...

Now, if you want to see a fan dance. Here you go..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mtae5BlUmgM

Make your poem sensual ... use your senses... as many as you can. It can come across as a dream, a fantasy, a memory, a diary entry, confessional.

There will be RULES for this contest

1) You must be 18 or older to enter this contest. If you submit an entry, you are claiming to be +18.

2) No poems about underage sex. No words which even hint of it– example of words not accepted would be adolescent... school girl...  etc. If unsure, send me a soupie. I’ll clarify.

3) Avoid cliché. Dig deep (excuse the pun.)

4) I love free verse, but I feel the term is a misnomer. There is nothing completely free about poetry. All writing, including prose, has structure, requires thought and intent. Please, whatever you send me, make it poetic, give me language, imagery, flow. Startle me with your craft.

5) I want your page to smoke. Make us combust. Write with passion. So here is a suggestion. Write like there is NO CENSOR, as though it is just for you and a lover. Then, edit accordingly. But hey, save your first draft, okay?

6 )If all you got to give is body parts, sweat and three minutes of action, this is not the contest for you. And I guarantee that you will not place in this contest.

Sensual poetry has been written since man found a way to record his thoughts and desires. Here are some examples:

Ancient Egyptian Love Poem

I wish I were your mirror
so that you always looked at me.
I wish I were your garment
so that you would always wear me.
I wish I were the water that washes your body.
I wish I were the unguent, O Woman,
that I could anoint you.
And the band around your breasts,
and the beads around your neck.
I wish I were your sandal
that you would step on me!

(Papyrus Anakreon: K. Preisendanz, Anacreon.)

The Bible
.

I am my beloved's,
and my beloved is mine:
he feedeth among the lilies

Song of Solomon 6: 3

Desire loosening
Arms, knees, thighs, she
Looks at me
More meltingly
Than sleep or death, such
Sweetness carries her...

Alcman 654 – 611 BC

To His Mistress Going to Bed
by John Donne

Come, madam, come, all rest my powers defy,
Until I labour, I in labour lie.
The foe oft-times having the foe in sight,
Is tired with standing though he never fight.
Off with that girdle, like heaven's zone glistering,
But a far fairer world encompassing.
Unpin that spangled breastplate which you wear,
That th'eyes of busy fools may be stopped there.
Unlace yourself, for that harmonious chime
Tells me from you that now it is bed time.
Off with that happy busk, which I envy,
That still can be, and still can stand so nigh.
Your gown going off, such beauteous state reveals,
As when from flowery meads th'hills shadow steals.
Off with your wiry coronet and show
The hairy diadem which on you doth grow:
Now off with those shoes: and then safely tread
In this love's hallowed temple, this soft bed.
In such white robes heaven's angels used to be
Received by men; thou, Angel, bring'st with thee
A heaven like Mahomet's Paradise; and though
Ill spirits walk in white, we easily know
By this these Angels from an evil sprite:
Those set our hairs, but these our flesh upright.
License my roving hands, and let them go
Before, behind, between, above, below.
O my America! my new-found-land,
My kingdom, safeliest when with one man manned,
My mine of precious stones, my empery,
How blest am I in this discovering thee!
To enter in these bonds is to be free;
Then where my hand is set, my seal shall be.
Full nakedness! All joys are due to thee,
As souls unbodied, bodies unclothed must be,
To taste whole joys. Gems which you women use
Are as Atlanta's balls, cast in men's views,
That when a fool's eye lighteth on a gem,
His earthly soul may covet theirs, not them:
Like pictures, or like books' gay coverings made
For lay-men, are all women thus arrayed.
Themselves are mystic books, which only we
(Whom their imputed grace will dignify)
Must see revealed. Then, since that I may know,
As liberally as to a midwife, show
Thyself: cast all, yea, this white linen hence,
There is no penance due to innocence:
To teach thee, I am naked first; why than,
What need'st thou have more covering than a man?

i like my body when it is with your
body. It is so quite new a thing.
Muscles better and nerves more.
i like your body. i like what it does,
i like its hows. i like to feel the spine
of your body and its bones, and the trembling
-firm-smooth ness and which i will
again and again and again
kiss, i like kissing this and that of you,
i like, slowly stroking the, shocking fuzz
of your electric fur, and what-is-it comes
over parting flesh… And eyes big love-crumbs,

and possibly i like the thrill

of under me you so quite new

e.e.cummings

And my own examples, paltry compared to the above, yet ones I am happy to have written.

Honeyed, free verse
Rasp Me Deep Pink, Rondeau
Cat O Nines, Monosyllable
Wild Rose, sonnet
Bend Me Towards Daybreak, sonnet
Passionfruit, pantoum
Seduced by Dusk, Wreath

Here is a tune to get your motors starting...

Need more inspiration? No matter if you are 25 or 75, I am fairly certain this will make your feet tap, get your sensual pens flowing and put a smile on your face.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UMU30wHuTE

Something a little more subtle, but still as sexy as all get out. Lyrics on the screen. This is what I know YOU CAN DO ? Wonderlands, indeedy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8dYpp0Pj5k

So go for it.

Whether this is your style...

Or this

Or perhaps this.

Leave the reader breathless and wanting more.

Have fun. As much fun as you can handle!

Don't attempt UNLESS you feel comfortable with this type of expressive writing!

Not your thing? No worries!

Double dare ya. I did not support that decision, but I get why some of the higher collars felt a bit tight. Me? Nope. Takes a lot to make me squirm. I know inappropriate when I see it. Gerbils? NO! Another about kids? NO! Sexual assault? Hell, no! Self pleasure? I see no prob. Loved it toots. Been meaning to say so for a long time.
