Love your story, Chris! I started out in NY state and my husband in New Jersey. We met each other in the Navy and later jobs would call us to Atlanta! Exciting to travel. So awful about the accident. Wow! Blessings my San Antonio friend!

Chris, thank you for sharing I loved hitching a ride with you and your friend. I'm 3 hours away from you "Houston". actually a very small suburb of houston. I grew up in and around the Houston area and I hated it. Then at 21 I moved to Oregon a place my heart still resides for 36 years. The only reason I moved back was because my dad was ill and was hoping to take care of him , but he passed before I could get here. My son had already moved a few months before to be with us we were just waiting for our home to sell.

WoW! Chris, this blog was like watching a good movie or reading a good book. You both were so brave. And had determination to see something different. Kudos to you for doing so. I know you miss Jersey but home is where the heart is. You found your home in Texas. Chris you make me want to visit Texas. It does rhyme with my name lol:-) Alexis

Nice to hear about your travels, when I returned from the military I hitch hiked across the country for a year so I understand the journey you and your friend had and the mind set to just get up and leave..

Hey, that was quite interesting all those places you got to see!! what a harrowing experience on the bus, and then to finally arrive at a place so gorgeous in the spring and decide to stay there! Not a big fan of Texas, but I do love Mexican food!!! It's great you found a new home to love. i have heard so many bad things about Jersey, though I visited it once and saw some lovely places!

Cool story, Chris. Perfect for a poet. You would have a made a good hobo, back in the day. JERSEY! You could have said anyplace but New Jersey:) Actually, it's no worse than any other place. Home is where you lay your hat. San Antonio is a beautiful city, for sure:)

I love this story, especially since it's all true. And because it's your own choice, it's so adventurous too. And I am happy you never regretted your decision :)

I left my small hometown at age 18. Went North to Holland, Michigan. It was summer time and the beaches were loaded with pretty gals in skimpy bikini's , I thought I'd stay forever there, that is- until winter cold sent me racing back home to Southern warmth! lol Great blog!

Does anyone miss Jersey... much? I grew up in a village of about 3,500. But still close to several good sized cities. Never moved to far away, though I'd love to sell my business (not happening) and go far away. Maybe someday...
