The Cardinal and the Enchanted Rose

During the early morning summer hours,
A cardinal flew to the ground, and chose
The most radiant of all the flowers—
It had selected the enchanted rose.

Taking flight, to deliver as a gift,
This rose, to a woman, for her pleasure.
Over many miles, the bird’s feet held lift,
Of this highly rare, enchanted treasure.

At her window, the bird began tapping,
Then flew over to a tree branch nearby—
And awoke the woman from her napping,
As she reached to rub the sleep from her eye.

When she opened the window, and looked down,
She found the sparkling, enchanted rose—
And then returned to bed in her nightgown,
Gently holding the flower to her nose.

The bird then flew back to where it once came,
And rested after its journey was done.
It hoped the woman would dream just the same,
As she did when the journey had begun.
