A Simple Poem
I'll write a very simple poem for you,
No fancy words or intricate syntax.
No underlying hint or secret clue
I'll hide the pain, leave no tracks.
I'll dust the secret chambers in my soul,
Stack the sorrow in tidy little piles.
I'll fold the grief with utmost self control
Place them in properly labeled files.
I'll scrub the heartache off the walls,
Force the rusty windows open wide.
I'll squish the darkness that crawls,
Be brave and let some sun inside.
I won't disturb your eternal sleep with my pain,
Just remember my mouth, wide with laughter.
For now I walk barefoot in this eternal rain
Knowing that I lost you to the hereafter.
I'll write a simple poem for you
A simple tune, a little lullaby.
Rest easy in the morning dew...
As for me... somehow I'll get by.
