Listen To the Warm
"It happens just because we need to want, and to be wanted too...when love is here or gone to lie down in the darkness and... listen to the warm.” -Rod McKuen
Listen to the Warm
It was warm that day, not too hot, not too cold
Our eyes met, my chest moved first in then out
consciously mimicking the motion of breathing but boy you took my breath away
we had gelato that day and when it came time I tried to pay, the look on your face was priceless
with very little protest I allowed you to have it your way, I was impressed
later you said to me you admired my independence
you loved how a woman so small could be so strong yet so warm, I reminded you of your mother
as I listened to you gush cuddled in your arms I felt at home the thought of your smile still melts me
In this moment I thought back to our first date how we walked, talked and laughed with ease
I recalled how quickly all my nerves, like butterflies, flew away
I fast forward in thought to you raving about how special and unbelievably cool I am
I still feel your warm meeting my warm creating our hot and now I stop.
The daydream had often in the dark is over and now I’m cold
I pull a second blanket atop of me as I roll on to my side to look at your side
I’m tired of thinking of the warm.
