The Caged Bird

And she bleeds
Slow the pain drips from her eyes--
The deep blue wells bar hope's small wing;
Which might live yet but cannot sing

For a wound
Writhes within those deep blue wells--
Fear ensnares her in its vise
So slow the pain drips from her eyes.

And she fails;
The key rests heavy in her hand--
The door will open if she may,
If only fear might feint away . . .

But it contains her stony tomb
For though she prays, her lark knows well
She has not quite the strength she needs--
And she bleeds
