This Wall

There's a knock, you want in, but I can't open the door.
I've built a wall so high I can't see over it anymore.
I look through the window, you're alone, it's cold out there.
You look deeply into my eyes, but get back a blank stare.
You shiver, then you beg, 'please, just one chance."
"I can't. I can't do it," I say back with a quick glance.
But you stand there, you wait, break down into tears.
This mountain I've built, it took years and years.
Years of betrayal and heartbreak, all wrapped in distrust.
I thought about suicide a few times, but it was nothing more than lust.
You're still there, outside, waiting for me to let you in.
We both know it won't happen, there's no way you will win.
So instead I step outside and sit down next to you.
If you're going to freeze waiting, let God take me too.
