Evolution of Rock
Tin Pan Alley is out of business, shut up and closed down,
The English collected millions, pounds and pounds,
America owned it, the best songwriters live,
They gave their souls, but they still couldn’t give.
The King is now gone and his songs remain,
The covers flew in again and again,
His band, revolution, rock was invented,
But his life was short, his heart needed stented.
Folk came along with old songs and tradition,
A man came along and blew it into remission,
A duo across the sea wrote and wrote,
And their songs, their own voices spoke
In the year of ‘63, the man had grown,
With heart and soul, and songs of his own.
Singing and writing he’ll spend his days,
No one can write what this man plays.
Throughout the next years, music grew,
Tin Pan Alley received what was due,
Men lost money and the country went to war,
And the songs started to mean more and more.
Progressive, alternative, jazz and art,
Rock has evolved into colorful parts,
And through it all his spirit remains,
And revolution is renewed again.
